70ft of Christmas tree

This gigantic tree has been built at the back of The Mailbox. Have a look at these photos - during and after construction. The steel framework was manufactured by Harry Burrows Fabrications Ltd.

This is Birmingham's largest Christmas tree and was built - by hand - on a canal stage at the back of BBC Birmingham.

Christmas 2008 - in all its glory

The whole construction is just over 70ft high and breaks down as follows:

A two metre high stage
20 metres of Christmas tree
A 600mm star on the top

Ian Bone and his team of four braved the cold weather on the week of 3rd November 2008, carefully transforming the steel structure which was assembled from scratch on site.

Can you count all five?

"I won't lie, it's not pleasant up the top!" he said. "We're very safe though and have our harnesses on at all times. This is one of the biggest trees in the UK and a real attraction for Birmingham this Christmas!"
